If you have been watching the Warriors this year you, like many others, probably believe they are just a bad team and their dynasty is over. Don’t fall for that narrative to soon. The Warriors are tanking and trying to make the fans and media believe they are simply a bad team. Yes, the Steph Curry injury and Klay Thompson injury have insured that they probably won’t make the playoffs but besides Steph’s injury, them missing the playoffs this year was planned. Just take a look at the start of the season with Steph Curry, D’ Angelo Russell, and Draymond: this team was getting blown out. At first you would think, “well they lost some of their bench and KD so this was inevitable.” Only problem with these theories is that Golden State in the last games of last year’s finals was without all the mentioned players and literally rolled out Alfonso McKinnie who did not even make this year’s team. To slow Steph down, the Raptors had to resort to a box and one. Now, even guys like D’Angelo Russell and Draymond are injured. In their place are some young players that are gaining much confidence and will most likely be dangerous in next year’s playoff run. I honestly think that the Warriors have the same mindset as the Lakers did last year. At a certain point, they knew they could make the playoffs but had no chance at winning a championship, so why not tank for picks and turn that into another top player either by drafting one or trading for one? At the moment, the Warriors have a boatload of assets. D’Angelo Russel is enticing to teams who don’t have a go to scorer. If the Warriors are smart, they won’t get rid of Russell but make him into that dangerous off the bench scorer like a Lou Williams or Jamal Crawford. Once Klay comes back next year healthy with Steph Curry and Draymond and likely a top 5 pick, this team will be dangerous. Next year’s starting lineup could be Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Jordan Poole, Draymond Green, and James Wiseman. That starting lineup alone is down right scary to other teams but then take a look at a possible bench of D’Angelo Russell with Eric Paschall and this team is in the running for another title. One thing that has remained true about the Warriors is that they will sacrifice their ego in order to win more championships. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Warriors are just setting up their next major move like when they signed Kevin Durant. Sleep on Golden State now because in the next five years they will still be wreaking havoc on the NBA.
